Planting heucheras with Azaleas? Ok?

This question was asked by
Jennifer P

I have planted standard azaleas in planting holes in our patio filled with ericaceous compost. Would it be possible to underplant with heucheras or would they not thrive ?

Hi Jennifer
They would be very happy in acid soil or alkaline they are not fused.
They hate being waterlogged but that’s not an issue for you
So feel free to fill your pots
Happy gardening

Hanging baskets for Winter colour

This question was asked by
Pat D

I would like to plant up a mixed winter hanging basket to go on my garage wall. It gets the sun (if any) most of the day and I would to know which heucheras would be suitable and what other plants they could mix with. The plants would then go out in the garden next spring. Thanks in advance

Hi Pat
If it’s for a winter basket you could pick any as the sun is not strong if any! as you say.
Trailing varieties that are good and available are Heucherella Redstone Falls and Yellowstone Falls, and Fire Frost
Any can go in baskets, to help them cover the basket (if not trailing varieties) plant them tilting outwards they they grow over more the sides of the basket.
Heucherella Red Rover is lovely and interesting foliage shape too.
Heuchera Can-Can to name a few
Hope this helps
Kind regards
Vicky

Ground cover for 1 square meter under shrubs

This question was asked by
Caroline H

Please recommend heucheras for ground cover and how many plants for say 1sq metre under some shrubs.

Hi Caroline
You will need appropriately 4 or 5 plants
If its shady from 10.30 to 4 o’clock you can have limes and lighter colours such as Heuchera Lime Marmalade, Yellowstone Falls (which is a creeping or trailing variety)
If it get more sun the plants like Heuchera Frilly Lizzie, Redstone Falls (trailing or creeeping), Violet Shimmer or Fire alarm to name a few
Hope this helps
Kind regards
Vicky

Heuchera ‘Red Lightening’

Heuchera ‘Red Lightening’ has electrifying dark red veins, over huge gold leaves. As you can see this gets a bit larger than you’re average Heuchera!

It is best in shade/partial shade as it has lighter leaves that may burn in full sun. It sprouts up pretty white flowers in the summer. It’s very hardy and requires little maintenance so it’s perfect for the no-fuss gardener who wants to add some colour to their garden.

You can shop Red Lightening HERE on our website.
