Dear Sir / Madam,

From the heucheras and heucherellas that you stock, do you sell any that are resistant the rust disease please?

Thank you and kind regards,
Gary Wilkinson

Hi Gary
Its Heuchera specific so any Heuchera can get it, Heucherella less so as they are part tiarella
Tiarella don’t get it at all.
Kind Regards
Vicky

Advice on heucheras for sunny spots

This question was asked by
Sue K

Hi. I bought some lovely Heuchera from you last year including the marvellous Lipstick, and would like to get some more for a new border which is especially for bees. It is very sunny and I’m not sure which – if any – Heuchera would be best. I’m flexible on colour but it is quite a large space and I want the plants to be happy. I live in Dorset with sandy soil so not too cold in the winter (except this one!!) All advice gratefully received even if it’s that Heuchera not a good choice. Would prefer you to email me if that’s ok. Many thanks Sue

Hi Sue
Sorry for kate reply ..where the time go?!
Anyway
Any Heuchera red, black, purple, silver and most but not all orange are good for sunny positions.
No Heucherella or Tiarella for sunny positions.
If you look at ‘plant information’ on each plant (at the bottom of the product page) it does tell you the best aspect as well just incase your unsure.
We recommend adding a little fibrous material if its very sandy, such as leaf mould etc as this will help to keep a bit of moisture in the ground during the summer,
They love well drained so thats no problem.
Hope this helps

Kind regards Vicky

How many Heuchera should I plant in a 50cm pot?

This question was asked by
Coral

Hi Both,
I recently followed your Twitter posts and am getting hooked on heucharas. I work as a part time gardener and am noticing more and more different coloured ones in my work.
Q: I have a terracotta pot, at 50cm wide and want to grow a selection on heuchara. Should I simply buy plant or 3 different coloured ones. I’m attracted to a variety of colours.

Hi Coral
Thanks for following us on twitter
Pleased your enjoying your Heucheras
In that sized pot I would recommend to start with put 3 then if after 3 years they grow bigger just split the 3 up and replant where you like 😀
Hope that helps
Kind regards vicky

When to plant Heuchera?

This question was asked by
Susan H

Thank you for your latest email.

We are really enjoying the plants you supplied us with earlier in the year, I could become an addict!!

When you have time would you kindly advise me what is the best time of year to plant Heuchera?

Kind regards, Susan.

Hi Susan so pleased to hear your enjoying the news letter we try to help you with tips, hints and money saving offers
Sorry for late reply its been mad here (always a good thing!)
You can plant anytime of the year as long as ground isn’t frozen or water logged.
We don’t ship from mid December through to February/March as the ground is so cold it takes longer to get going
If in containers anytime as long as the drainage is good
Hope this helps
Kind regards Vicky

Over wintering container-grown heucheras

This question was asked by
Alan W

We have some containers with heucheras and we are not sure whether to take them into a heated greenhouse over the winter. We also want to expand them ready for spring. What is good to buy now and how should we care for them. Sorry to be a nuisance but we don’t want to kill them off. (PS – We live in the Midlands. Somebody has to..!)

Hi Alan
Sorry for late reply (its been mad here!)
You can leave them outside or if you want you can bring them into a well ventilated cold green house or cold frame for winter.
Its the wet that will kill them not the cold! They mustn’t stand with their feet in water
If in pots outside you can put little feet under them to ensure the water runs out over winter
Any plants for sale on our website can be planted straight out now they are fully hardy ..all grown cold and most outside atm
Hope that helps
Kind regards Vicky
