Difference between Heuchera Heucherella and Tiarella?

This question was asked by

Please will you explain the difference between heuchera, heucherella, and tiarella.

Your heuchera plants look amazing and my collection will definitely be growing.

Thanks, Jackie

Hi Jackie

Its a cross between a Heuchera & Tiarella.
Tiarella have heart & lobed shaped foliage of green with darker maroon or black bars the center.
They have starry flowers at the top of the stem like little pagodas ..their common name is foam flower

Heuchera have masses of coloured foliage with a more rounded or maple shaped leaf, and bell shaped flowers.

When you cross the two together you get Heucherella with all the Heuchera colours & fab shaped leaves and markings of the Tiarella
Starry flowers too! Fabulous!

Hope this helps
Enjoy your Heuchera, Heucherella and Tiarella
Kind regards Vicky

Would these be grow in a shady spot in chalky soil?

Hi Jania
Yes these would be great there as long as they get some moisture
Well drained is better than water logged for Tiarella and Heuchera
Hope this helps

Heuchera

This question was asked by
Eileen S

I have a lifelong love of Heuchera because they keep on giving. I was thinking of a Christmas gift to send 10 or 12 plants to my daughter who has just done a makeover of her garden. I wondered if I sent her a Big splash of color such as your brightest reds, and either almost black or vivid lime green what you would advise? I mean are they even ready to plant in December?

Hi Eileen
What a great gift
What about…
Lime Marmalde, Cranberry, Gojiberry, Peach Flambé, Prince, Wild berry, Catching fire,
These look really lovely together
Maybe pop a couple of the same varieties to add continuity
We will ship in December but it does depend on the weather and we stop around the 10th as we worry they might get lost or delayed in the Christmas post
Thanks for your enquiry
Hope this helps

Heuchera ‘Wild Berry’ in long term hanging baskets?

This question was asked by
Victoria

Hi – I’m hoping to create a long-term perennial hanging basket that I won’t need to replace each season. Would Heuchera wild berry perform ok in a basket for the longer term, or would it struggle? If the latter, are there any other varieties you could recommend?

Thanks!
Victoria

Hi Victoria
Yes wild berry should do well ..in fact most of them will be good in baskets long term.
Just a quick tidy up in spring and when ever they need it.
Also in spring scrape some of the old compost off and top dress and at the same time add some slow release fertiliser.
Now and again feed with something like the heuxhera feed loos poo alpaca feed (for sale on the website)
Hope this helps
Kind regards Vicky
