Plants for Pots

This question was asked by
Jadranka

We are looking for a variety of plants, preferably evergreen, that will live happily in pots and that are happy in full sun for most of the day. We would like them to be either flowering at any season, or to have very attractive foliage all the year round.

Hi jadranka
Heucheras are the answer most have beautiful foliage.
They are happy all their lives in pots
They all flower some for longer periods than others
For full sun you would need to search for plants that are reds, purples, blacks, browns and some oranges and greens (you can check this when you look at the ‘More detail’ bit )
If you need any more info please ask
Hope this helps

Planting suggestion

This question was asked by

What would you suggest to plant with my Heuchera Rio, Heuchera or other, in a large trough for year round interest. The site faces east and gets morning sun, but is mostly shady. What colours look good with Rio? Many thanks.

Hi Kate
Heuchera lime marmalade is great with Rio if it shady
Hope this helps

Burnt Heucheras

This question was asked by
Anna C

Please can you tell me how to deal with my burnt plants, this has not happened before but temps. have been unusual . Should I dig them up and put into a cold frame? I dont want to loose these plants ALL together. Thank you.

Hi Anna
They can when established stand drought and hot weather although it can still mark the foliage, (make sure you water at night) if you leave the foliage on until the hot weather goes (even though they look a mess) then tidy the top leave. These should offer protection for the crown (the growing point ) However if they are younger then it might be an idea to give them shade under a parasol or make shift shade if, that’s not possible then dig up and replant when drought and hot spell is over …keeping in a shady place, no need for a cold frame as frames can get really hot in this weather.
Hope this helps
Kind regards Vicky
