Is it possible to order and pay if stock is unavailable

Hi Sheila
Sorry no you can’t
It makes it too difficult to keep track of what’s ordered and what’s not also..
If not in stock we might have them growing or could be next year now before they are available again
Sorry
Kind regards Vicky

CLICK & COLLECT SYSTEM

This question was asked by
Margaret I

I’m attending Tatton Park Show on the 22nd July on a coach trip. I would like to use the Click & Collect system. How do I do this? How big are the plants – need to know this because of carrying them about.

Looking forward to seeing you.

MARGARET IBBS

Hi Margaret
The click and collect is simple
Just choose what plants you want and add to basket
When ready go to checkout
At checkout you will see options such as collect from nursery…
If you click that it drops down and give you options to collect from the shows
Choose tatton
You should not be charged shipping costs then
It will ask you to finish and pay
If you want to add what day your coming add that in special notes when the box appears
The plants are in 1 litre pots and 9cm pots
Quite light and easy to carry
The show does have a plant creche so you can leave all your purchases throughout the day in there to make getting around easy.
I think if you buy a lot they have porters to take to you transport lol
So you should be ok
Any problem just let me know
See you at Tatton
Kind regards Vicky

How can I get rid of the rust coloured spots on my Heucheras?

This question was asked by
Mrs v W

I have half a dozen heucheras, several years old, in pots on a basement patio, in Brighton. They are superb this year, growing well and flowering but the lime green one has suddenly developed small rust coloured spots on the top of the leaves with same colour blobs under the leaves. My gardening book says ‘leafy gall’ but gives no instructions and Google doesn’t know what ‘leafy gall’ is! I don’t know if it is infectious, if the plant should be destroyed or cut back. I have never re-potted or divided them.
Thank you.

Hi V,
Heuchera rust is what it is.
Cut off ALL foliage scoop soil from around the plant and throw away (don’t put any in compost bin )
Then spray for a couple of months, as indicated in bottle with Rose Clear for black spot and rust.
Keep an eye on all others as it can spread!
Any leaves that come back with spots whilst it’s growing back pinch off immediately.
Don’t touch other leaves when you handled the rust foliage as it can spread that way
Hope this helps
Kind regards
Vicky

Vine weevil

This question was asked by
Judy H

I have lost several Heuchera to an apparent root eating bug. The little bit of foliage left lifts off like a wig. This has happened to plants including some bought from you both in the ground and in pots. Any advice about prevention/ treatment would be greatly appreciated.
Well done at Chelsea.

Hi judy
Sorry to hear about the vine weevil problem
If you don’t have Heucheras they will attack other things too and it does become a serious problem as they are native to this country.
The Heuchera makes an excellent early warning system.
Our do have something in them to make sure we don’t send them out by mistake but that will only last 6 months sadly
However…
Here is the answer

This time of year all the Vine weevil are hatching and looking for somewhere to live and feed.
The adults love a leathery leaf so tend to head towards viburnum, rhodo, azaleas acuba, acers, etc to feed in the evening at dusk.
You will know they are there because the leaves will have notches on them
So in the day if you go out to the eaten nibbled trees and pop a couple of umbrellas up side down.
Then go out at dusk and shake the bush /tree see if they will drop off into your upturned umbrella
If they do take them back to the patio tip them out and have a lot to dance on them …remember they are not dead until they crunch!
Repeat this throughout the summer.
If the neighbours look at you funny invite them to do the same in their garden …the more the merrier!
Then come know August and September get nematodes (online and garden centres )and water that on them
In spring it’s always a good idea to keep a close eye open for any loosening of the crown (leaves) if they feel very loose dig them out and wash iffbthe roots looking for the white crowns
Hope this helps
Kind regards
Vicky
