Plant Selection

This question was asked by
Keith H

Hello from Keith Hodge.
Will you recommend a plant to go in a 12inch square planter beside a front door. The position is south facing and not particularly sheltered there is no shade. Geraniums do well from June to November but leave the planter with no colour for the rest of year. I’m looking for a plant that is bright and interesting year round, the plant doesn’t have to be bright year round but should be interesting. Maybe it’s to tall an order I don’t know. PLEASE HELP.
Warmest Regards. Keith H.

Hi Keith
My choice would be Heuchera Tangerine wave is lovely would fill the pot
It would give you a range of orange shades through the year with wavey foliage too cream/white flowers in summer
All heucheras are evergreen
Richard suggestion was heuchera Prince good shape foliage and nice rich shiny leaf all year round with white flowers in summer
Hope this helps
Kind regards

Orange/red trailers for hanging baskets

This question was asked by
Karin R

Hi there apart from Redstone Falls can you recommend any other Heurchera for a hanging basket – I’m looking for something quite reddy orange with a good trailing habit.
Thank you – Karin

Hi Karin
The only other on in that colour way is the heucherella Autumn cascade
Redstone is the deepest colour in the trailing varieties
We have both of these available at the moment 14 November 2017
Hope that helps
Kind regards

Heucherellas in hanging baskets

This question was asked by
J. Stewart

Hello,

I love your site – so much ‘eye candy’ that gives a lot of food for thought.

I’d like to create a hanging basket composed solely of Redstone Falls, but wondered: how many plants would I require?

I’m looking to make 3 hanging baskets in total – made up of heucheras/ heucherellas and would like suggestions as to those plants which have a natural trailing/ spreading habit, and whether you have them currently in stock.

Best wishes,
Jonathan

Hi Jon
Pleased your enjoying the website
We recommend 3 plants per 12-18 inch basket to look good.
Only tiarella and heucherella are trailing
There are no trailing heucheras sadly, although they are often used in baskets as some have larger leaves that mix well with the heucherella trailing varieties.
Varieties we have in stock that trail are heucherella hot shot, plum cascade, Yellowstone falls, Redstone falls and autumn cascade …all of these look great in baskets
Hope this helps
Kind regards
Vicky
